In 1897, Ishar Singh is sent to the remote Saragarhi outpost, where he must bring 20 Sikh soldiers into line as thousands of Afghan tribesmen move toward the fort. Akshay Kumar is Ishar, a defiant soldier in the British Indian Army, with Parineeti Chopra in a supporting role. Drawing on the Battle of Saragarhi, the film centers on a small communication post caught between colonial command and an overwhelming siege, narrowing its focus to the men ordered to hold their position against impossible odds.
