When Jack the Ripper steals his time machine, writer H. G. Wells follows him from Victorian England to 1979 San Francisco, turning a literary visionary into the lead of a manhunt. Malcolm McDowell is Wells, chasing a killer through a city he barely understands while struggling to make anyone believe what he’s saying. David Warner’s Ripper arrives in the 20th century with far less trouble adapting, and Mary Steenburgen is the San Francisco woman Wells meets as the pursuit starts to close in around him. The story moves between gaslit London and contemporary streets, mixing time-travel fantasy with a serial-killer chase.
