Cheated out of his inheritance and abducted, young David Balfour (James MacArthur) finds an unlikely ally in Peter Finch’s Alan Breck Stewart, a Jacobite adventurer with enemies of his own. When David is falsely accused of murder, the two are forced to flee across the Highlands with redcoats in pursuit. Their escape sends them over rough ground and open water while David tries to recover what was taken from him. Bernard Lee and John Laurie round out the supporting cast in this 1960 take on Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale of pursuit, loyalty, and contested land.
