In the days after Princess Diana's death in 1997, Queen Elizabeth II faces a mounting crisis as the royal family's instinct for privacy collides with public mourning across Britain. Helen Mirren is Elizabeth, retreating with her family to Balmoral while newspapers, crowds, and palace protocol turn silence into a political problem. Opposite her, Michael Sheen's newly elected Tony Blair sees the danger of a monarchy that appears distant at the worst possible moment.
