Ashes and Snow

DocumentaryDrama63 min

Inside the traveling Nomadic Museum, Gregory Colbert’s film moves through a series of encounters between people and animals, staged as part of the larger Ashes and Snow exhibition. The images pair humans with elephants, birds, whales, and other creatures, not in a conventional documentary about wildlife but in quiet, carefully composed scenes that treat them as companions sharing the same space. A thread of letters and reflections links these tableaux, giving the film the shape of a meditation as it passes from one meeting to the next. As the exhibition travels from city to city, the movie becomes one part of a larger world built to hold its photographs, writing, and moving images together.
