An uptight Manhattan businessman accepts a ride from a free-spirited stranger and winds up on an impulsive road trip that keeps swerving away from anything he thought the day would be. Jeff Daniels is Charles Driggs, a yuppie pulled out of his routine by Melanie Griffith's Lulu, whose flirtation and unpredictability set the pace from New York into small-town stops and a class reunion. Then Lulu's ex-con husband Ray Sinclair (Ray Liotta) arrives, and what started as a reckless getaway turns darker and more dangerous.
