Griffin Dunne is Paul Hackett, an uptown Manhattan office worker who heads downtown for a hookup and winds up trapped in an all-night scramble through SoHo. Martin Scorsese turns Paul’s simple trip home into a chain of mishaps and unnerving encounters, starting with Rosanna Arquette’s mysterious woman and widening to include bartenders, artists, thieves, punks, and rumors of murder. As the subway and any clear way out keep slipping away, Paul spends the night ricocheting across late-night New York, where coincidence and misunderstanding keep making a bad situation worse.
