The Sea Inside
Drama126 min
Javier Bardem is Ramón Sampedro, a former ship mechanic and part-time poet left quadriplegic after a diving accident, who spends decades fighting for the legal right to end his own life. Drawn from Sampedro’s true story, the film follows the case through the relationships that shape it: Ramón’s connection with his lawyer Julia (Belén Rueda), and his friendship with Rosa, a local woman played by Lola Dueñas, who tries to persuade him to keep living. Alejandro Amenábar frames the debate around dignity, autonomy, faith, and the effect Ramón has on the people who enter his world.
