This is Congo
DocumentaryWar93 min
As the M23 rebellion advances through eastern Congo in 2012, four Congolese lives come into focus: a whistleblower, a military commander, a mineral dealer, and a displaced tailor. Colonel Kasongo and Hakiza Nyantaba are among the figures at its center, as the film moves from front-line fighting to markets, homes, and the political machinery surrounding the war. Working from a Congolese point of view, it follows the pressure of the conflict as it spreads through daily life, while folding in key chapters from the Democratic Republic of Congo’s recent history, including the legacies of colonial rule, resource extraction, and regional power struggles.
