Hazel is a 16-year-old cancer patient whose life has narrowed to treatments, an oxygen tank, and the support group her parents insist she attend. Shailene Woodley is Hazel, sharp and guarded, until she meets Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort), a fellow teen patient with a dry sense of humor and a direct way of seeing the world. Their bond grows through books, jokes, and the fact that illness is always part of the conversation, while Laura Dern and Sam Trammell appear as Hazel’s anxious, attentive parents.
