In Los Angeles, Mia spends her days serving coffee on a studio lot and racing from one audition to the next, while Sebastian keeps his jazz ambitions alive through forgettable piano gigs. Emma Stone is Mia, an aspiring actress chasing a break in Hollywood; Ryan Gosling’s Sebastian wants to open a club devoted to the music he loves. As their romance grows, so do the opportunities and compromises pulling at it. Damien Chazelle frames their story with song, dance, traffic-jam spectacle, and after-hours jazz, moving between sunlit fantasy and the grind of creative work.
