No Regrets for Our Youth
DramaWar111 min
After her anti-fascist professor father is dismissed, Yukie is pulled from a sheltered upbringing into romance, political repression, and the upheaval surrounding World War II in Japan. Setsuko Hara is Yukie, a young woman whose sense of duty and independence sharpen as the years pass and public pressure turns private choices into political ones. In one of Akira Kurosawa’s first postwar films, the story follows her across a turbulent decade, from bourgeois daughter to a figure increasingly defined by her own convictions.
