Laura Partridge is an eager small stockholder with just ten shares in a giant New York corporation, but Judy Holliday’s Laura turns her first stockholders’ meeting into a public interrogation of the board. To keep her from causing more trouble, the executives give her a job and send her to win over former company head Edward McKeever, with Paul Douglas as the sidelined businessman they still need. As Laura moves from the gallery to the office, the film turns corporate procedure, salary disputes, and shareholder politics into a sharp 1950s comedy with a romantic thread running through the boardroom intrigue.
