Sound of Metal
Drama121 min
Metal drummer Ruben is losing his hearing just as life on the road with his band seems to be holding together. Riz Ahmed is Ruben, a recovering addict whose girlfriend and bandmate, Olivia Cooke's Lou, checks him into a sober house for the deaf after doctors warn his condition will worsen. Inside that community, Joe (Paul Raci) pushes him to stop treating deafness as something to outrun or fix. The film moves from cramped vans and live sets to the routines, rules, and sign language of Ruben's new environment as he tries to imagine what life looks like when the future he counted on starts to disappear.
