Animal Love
Documentary120 min
In urban Austria, people worn down by loneliness and disappointment in other relationships turn to dogs and other household animals for company, intimacy, and daily structure. Ulrich Seidl’s documentary builds from interviews and observation, watching how pets become companions, stand-ins for partners, cuddly objects, and members of the home. Among the people onscreen are Ernst Schönmann and Gabi Tairi, part of a cross-section of city dwellers whose attachment to animals speaks to both affection and isolation.
