Blood of the Beasts
Documentary23 min
On the outskirts of Paris, quiet streets and open fields sit alongside slaughterhouses where animals are killed, skinned, and butchered in graphic detail. Georges Hubert’s measured narration, joined by Nicole Ladmiral, guides the film’s stark contrast between bucolic daily life and the routines inside the abattoirs. As it moves through the fate of the animals, it also turns its attention to the workers who carry out the labor, observing their environment with a plain, unblinking eye. The result is a blunt juxtaposition of pastoral calm and industrial slaughter.
