In 1947, Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl sets out from Peru on a balsa-wood raft, determined to prove that South Americans could have reached Polynesia in pre-Columbian times. Pål Sverre Hagen is Thor, leading a crew of five across the Pacific on a vessel built to match ancient designs, despite his own fear of water and inability to swim. Alongside him, Anders Baasmo’s Herman Watzinger becomes part of a cramped expedition with little modern equipment and thousands of miles of open ocean ahead. Storms, sharks, and the sheer scale of the voyage press the mission far beyond a scientific argument.
