The Wind Rises
AnimationAnimeDramaRomanceWar126 min
In Hayao Miyazaki’s portrait of engineer Jiro Horikoshi, Hideaki Anno voices a young man whose lifelong obsession with flight carries him from dream conversations with Italian designer Caproni to the drawing boards of prewar Japan. Nearsighted and unable to become a pilot himself, Jiro channels that ambition into aircraft design, eventually helping create the A-6M fighter plane. Alongside his work, an intimate love story takes shape, with Miori Takimoto as the woman at the center of his private life, while earthquakes, economic hardship, and the approach of war press in on the world around him.
