How Green Was My Valley

DramaFamily118 min

In a Welsh mining town at the turn of the 20th century, Roddy McDowall is Huw Morgan, the academically inclined youngest son in a proud family of coal miners watching his home change around him. As wages fall and a strike divides the Morgans, Huw sees labor battles, family tensions, and village gossip reshape the valley. John Ford directs the story on both an intimate and community scale, with Walter Pidgeon and Maureen O'Hara among the figures around Huw as industrial change presses into daily life and turns a close-knit household into a mirror of a town under strain.
