Farewell My Concubine

DramaRomance171 min

In early 20th-century China, two boys are trained in the brutal world of Peking opera and grow into celebrated performers whose bond is built on the roles they share onstage. Cheng Dieyi becomes deeply attached to Duan Xiaolou, but their partnership shifts when Xiaolou marries the former courtesan Gong Juxian. As desire, jealousy, and loyalty knot the three together, the story follows them across decades of upheaval, from the fall of the old order through war, revolution, and the Cultural Revolution. Leslie Cheung and Zhang Fengyi are at the center of a relationship drama in which private wounds keep colliding with a country remaking itself.
