700 requins dans la nuit

Documentary92 min

Marine biologist and underwater photographer Laurent Ballesta heads to the southern pass of Fakarava, a Polynesian atoll, after encountering an astonishing concentration of more than 700 grey sharks during the groupers’ annual spawning. Over years of preparation, Ballesta and his international scientific team work to move inside the pack without triggering aggression, using tagged sharks, antennas, hydrophones, and a bank of synchronized cameras to study what draws so many predators together. Shark specialists Yannis P. Papastamatiou and Johann Mourier join the expedition as the film follows both the logistics of the mission and the search for the sharks’ social patterns.
