The Bad News Bears

Down-on-his-luck former pitcher Morris Buttermaker is pressed into coaching the Bears, a mismatched Little League team getting trounced in a hyper-competitive California youth league. Walter Matthau is Buttermaker, a hard-drinking ex-minor leaguer whose indifference is nearly as obvious as the kids’ lack of fundamentals. Tatum O’Neal and Jackie Earle Haley are among the young players on a roster full of outsized tempers, bruised egos, and improvised baseball. The story stays at field level, following a ragged team trying to survive under a coach with little patience and even less polish.
