Battleground
ActionAdventureDocumentaryDramaWar118 min
In December 1944, a company of the U.S. Army’s 101st Airborne Division is trapped at Bastogne, Belgium, holding off repeated German attacks while waiting for the skies to clear and air support to arrive. Van Johnson is Holley, one of the soldiers trying to keep going after the unit has already taken losses. Around him, John Hodiak, Ricardo Montalban, and James Whitmore fill out a group of tired, wary men sharing foxholes, rations, and gallows humor. Battleground stays close to the ground-level strain of the Battle of the Bulge, where weather, fatigue, and uncertainty press in as hard as the enemy.
