In small-town Pacashau, Georgia, a church choir’s shot at a national competition is threatened by budget cuts and a feud at the top. Queen Latifah is Vi Rose Hill, the newly appointed director, while Dolly Parton’s G.G. Sparrow pushes for a bolder sound than Vi Rose’s traditional approach. As rehearsals turn into a tug-of-war over style, younger singers bring their own complications: Keke Palmer’s Olivia is one of the choir’s standouts, and newcomer Randy (Jeremy Jordan), G.G.’s grandson, arrives with fresh musical ideas and a quick connection to her.
