You Were Never Lovelier

ComedyMusicalRomance97 min

In a wealthy family’s Buenos Aires household, a father becomes so desperate to see his daughters married that he starts sending anonymous gifts to one of them, hoping to stir up a romance. The plan goes sideways when a down-on-his-luck dancer is mistaken for the secret admirer and drawn into the family’s schemes. As misunderstandings pile up, the daughter resists being managed, the fake courtship starts to feel less fake, and the pair keep colliding between formal parties and musical set pieces. Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth lead a story built on mistaken identity, parental meddling, and a romance that keeps slipping out of everyone else’s control.
