In the small town of Paradise, the police department is packed with officers who are reckless, incompetent, or both, and every call turns into a bigger disaster. A rookie cop joins the force hoping to prove himself, but he has to do it under a hardheaded police chief who is also his father and surrounded by coworkers who make even simple cases spiral out of control. Drug busts, gang schemes, and local crimes keep colliding with the squad’s own feuds, bad decisions, and gross misconduct. As the department stumbles from one mess to the next, the town’s lawbreakers are often the only ones acting with any kind of plan.
