Amazing Grace
DocumentaryDramaRomance118 min
In late-18th-century Britain, William Wilberforce takes his opposition to the slave trade from private conviction to the floor of Parliament. Ioan Gruffudd is Wilberforce, a rising politician worn down by illness, setbacks, and a political system built to protect the trade. Romola Garai appears as Barbara Spooner, whose relationship with him unfolds alongside the public battle, while Albert Finney’s John Newton — a former slave-ship captain turned minister — becomes a crucial moral voice in his life. The film follows the pressure, alliances, and arguments behind Wilberforce’s long push to change British law.
