The Magnet

Comedy79 min

Young Johnny Brent is a Wallasey schoolboy whose small act of cheating — trading an “invisible” clock for another boy’s magnet — quickly spins beyond his control. James Fox is Johnny, first pleased with his prize and then increasingly trapped by his own guilt as rumors and misunderstandings spread through the town. When the younger boy (Keith Robinson) runs off, a search begins, and Johnny is suddenly hailed as a hero for reasons he can’t set straight without confessing how the trouble started. Charles Frend’s comedy follows the gap between a child’s lie and the much larger story the adults build around it.
