District 9
ActionAdventureSci-FiThriller112 min
Thirty years after aliens arrive on Earth seeking refuge, they’ve been confined to a fenced slum outside Johannesburg and treated as a problem to be managed. Sharlto Copley is the MNU field agent assigned to oversee their relocation, a bureaucratic operation that turns personal when he’s infected by a substance that begins altering his DNA. As government and corporate interests close in on the extraterrestrials’ advanced weapons technology, the only place he can disappear is District 9 itself. Neill Blomkamp frames the story through news reports, interviews, and street-level chaos, tying its sci-fi premise to segregation, policing, and life on the margins.
