Michael Shannon is Curtis, an Ohio construction worker and father whose violent dreams of an apocalyptic storm begin bleeding into his waking life. As he quietly pours borrowed money and mounting anxiety into building a storm shelter, Curtis keeps his fears from his wife; Jessica Chastain’s Samantha is left to make sense of his secrecy, their strained finances, and the pressure of caring for their deaf young daughter. What starts as private dread spreads through their marriage and small-town community, as Curtis can’t tell whether he’s preparing for disaster or losing his grip.
