Thirteen years after a prom-night disaster, Ben Stiller's Ted finally works up the nerve to look for Mary, the date he never got over. Cameron Diaz is Mary, now surrounded by admirers, misunderstandings, and one especially slippery private investigator: Pat Healy (Matt Dillon), whom Ted hires to track her down. What starts as a second chance turns into a chain of lies, false personas, and escalating humiliations as Ted tries to reconnect with her and discovers he’s not the only one fixated on Mary.
