Slaves of New York

ComedyDrama124 min

In New York City lofts where high rent keeps people tied to bad relationships, Eleanor (Bernadette Peters), an aspiring hat designer, shares a cramped life with her successful but abusive artist boyfriend. Around her, a loose crowd of artists, prostitutes, saints, and seers scrambles for love, recognition, and enough money to stay afloat. Chris Sarandon and Mary Beth Hurt move through the same Greenwich Village world of fraying romances, stalled careers, and apartments no one can really afford, where every friendship and affair is tangled up with ambition, dependence, and the question of how to move on when leaving costs more than staying.
