In early 20th-century Japan, a young man, played by Ryô Narita, dreams of becoming a benshi — the live narrator who gives silent films their voice. He chases that ambition through the lively, competitive world of small-town movie theaters, where storytelling happens in front of the screen as much as on it. Yuina Kuroshima is among the people around him as the film moves between backstage routines, rival venues, and the performers trying to make each screening a full performance rather than just a projection.
