In the late 1950s, Blue (Nina Siemaszko), the teenage daughter of a jazz musician, is left on her own after her father’s death and pulled into the orbit of an upscale brothel. Wendy Hughes’s Elle runs the house with polished authority, offering Blue a way to survive while binding her to a world built around wealthy clients and strict control. As Blue starts looking for a life beyond the business, the pressure comes less from the work itself than from Elle’s determination to keep her exactly where she is.
