I Dutifully Report
ComedyWar91 min
World War I becomes a maze of orders, train mishaps, and military nonsense as soldier Josef Švejk is sent toward the front and somehow keeps landing in stranger situations. Rudolf Hrusínský leads the film through Hašek’s comic portrait of army life, with Svatopluk Beneš among the officers and fellow soldiers orbiting Švejk’s latest trouble. Along the way, the story folds in the famous Budějovice detour, a fake Russian-prisoner episode, a court scene, and the kind of official discipline that only makes the chaos around him look sharper.
