The Civil War

DocumentaryDramaWar71 min per episode

As the United States breaks apart in the 1860s, this documentary follows the Civil War from secession and first battles through the long, grinding struggle that remakes the country. It moves between presidents and generals, soldiers in camp, and families waiting at home, showing how political decisions turn into mass death on battlefields such as Antietam and Gettysburg. Letters, diary entries, period photographs, and contemporary narration build the story from many sides of the conflict, including slavery’s central place in the war and the lives caught inside it. Created by Ken Burns, the series traces how the fight expands, hardens, and leaves the nation changed.
