The Woman on the Beach
CrimeDramaRomance71 min
Robert Ryan is a war-traumatized Coast Guard officer who drifts into the orbit of Peggy (Joan Bennett), a beautiful, elusive woman living by the sea with her husband, Tod (Charles Bickford), a blind former painter. In Jean Renoir’s 1947 drama, the attraction between the sailor and Peggy sharpens into a tense triangle, with Tod’s damaged past and dominating presence hanging over every encounter. As the sailor grows more fixated on Peggy, suspicion and desire begin to blur, and he starts to wonder whether Tod’s blindness is the whole story.
