After dying on his first wedding anniversary, Louie Jeffries is sent back to Earth and grows up as another man. Robert Downey Jr. is Alex Finch, who meets Miranda years later and starts recovering memories of a previous life that lead straight to Louie’s old home. There he finds Corinne, Louie’s widow, in Cybill Shepherd’s hands, and Louie’s best friend Philip (Ryan O’Neal), who has become part of the family. The story turns on reincarnation, mistaken identity, and the increasingly awkward overlap between Alex’s present-day life and the marriage, friendships, and unfinished feelings he may not have left behind at all.
