A new antique shop arrives in a small New England town, and every item on its shelves seems tailored to the buyer's deepest desire. Max von Sydow's Leland Gaunt is charming, patient, and oddly all-knowing; the price he asks is never just money, but a small favor meant to stir up trouble between neighbors. As those bargains spread, grudges deepen and the town starts turning on itself. Sheriff Alan Pangborn (Ed Harris) is one of the few people who doesn't fall under Gaunt's spell, and he begins to see how each private wish is feeding something larger and darker.
