Drag icon Divine is Babs Johnson, a Baltimore tabloid fixture living in a trailer with her son Crackers, her companion Cotton, and her egg-obsessed mother Edie when a rival couple decides to steal her title as “the filthiest person alive.” Connie Marble (Mink Stole) and her husband Raymond (David Lochary) turn the feud into a campaign of spying, humiliation, and one-upmanship, while John Waters pushes the setup into deliberately crude, confrontational territory. Edith Massey’s Mama Edie, half bedridden and loudly fixated on eggs, gives Babs’s household its own warped rhythm as the Marbles try to outdo them.
