At an Oklahoma plutonium plant, worker Karen Silkwood begins to suspect that safety violations are putting employees in danger. As she becomes more active in the union, she starts gathering records and pressing for answers, only to face pressure at work and strain in her personal life. Contamination scares and missing documents raise the stakes as Karen pushes deeper into what the company may be hiding. Meryl Streep stars as a woman trying to hold onto the truth while the risks around her keep growing, with Kurt Russell as the boyfriend pulled into the fallout. Based on the Karen Silkwood case, the film follows her fight before it reaches its fatal turning point.
