After the Portuguese government demolishes his Lisbon slum and relocates him to a housing project on the city’s edge, 75-year-old Cape Verde immigrant Ventura (Ventura) wanders between his new home and the remains of the old neighborhood, reconnecting with people from his past. Vanda Duarte and Beatriz Duarte are among the figures he visits as conversations repeat and memories overlap. Moving through bare hallways and half-erased streets on the outskirts of Lisbon, the film keeps close to Ventura as past and present seem to exist at the same time.
