Love Strange Love

The story

In 1937 Brazil, a 12-year-old boy is brought to São Paulo to visit the mother he barely knows and finds her living in a brothel attached to a powerful politician’s world. Vera Fischer is the mother he has come to see, while Tarcísio Meira’s Osmar is the politician who owns the house and presides over its uneasy mix of intimacy and influence. Told as an adult’s memory of forty-eight crucial hours, the film follows the boy through a fraught reunion, the atmosphere of the bordello, and an early sexual awakening as political change gathers in the background.
