Harvard anthropologist Dennis Alan travels to Haiti to track down a rumored powder said to bring the dead back to life, and his search draws him into political unrest, secret rites, and increasingly terrifying visions. Bill Pullman is Dennis, a skeptical outsider whose medical curiosity keeps colliding with local beliefs about zombification and curses. With help from Cathy Tyson’s fellow researcher, he moves through cemeteries, rituals, and jungle outposts looking for an explanation that science can hold onto. Directed by Wes Craven and filmed on location in Haiti, the movie mixes investigative horror with hallucinatory images of burial, possession, and nightmare.
