Red Sorghum

The story

In rural China, a young woman is sent into an arranged marriage and soon finds herself at a sorghum liquor distillery, where desire, rivalry, and hard daily labor shape her new life. As she learns the rhythms of the place, her bond with one of the workers begins to upset the order around her. The distillery becomes the center of a larger struggle when violence from outside reaches the countryside and ordinary work turns into survival. What begins as a story of marriage and awakening widens into one of community, endurance, and resistance, set against fields of red sorghum and the brewing threat of war.
