The Adventurer

The story

An escaped convict slips past the guards, turns a seaside rescue into chaos, and ends up hiding in a judge’s home after pulling a young woman, her mother, and an overeager suitor out of danger. Charles Chaplin is the quick-footed fugitive, bluffing his way through an upper-class party while prison officers keep circling closer. Edna Purviance’s Miss Brown becomes the center of a comic rivalry once her rescuer trades the beach for the drawing room, carrying the chase from jailbreak to dinner jackets and mistaken respectability.
