At a Southern military academy, Cadet Sgt. Jocko DeParis uses charm, intimidation, and the school’s rigid code to control the boys around him. Ben Gazzara is Jocko, a swaggering upperclassman whose influence over fellow cadets turns hazing into something crueler and more personal. Pat Hingle is among the men pulled into his orbit as discipline, status, and humiliation shape life inside the barracks. The film stays close to the academy’s closed hierarchy, where every favor, punishment, and display of loyalty gives Jocko another opening to tighten his hold.
