The Wise Little Hen

AnimationComedyFamilyMusical8 min

A hardworking little hen asks Donald Duck and Peter Pig to help plant and harvest her corn, but both suddenly come down with “tummy aches” whenever there’s work to do. In this 1934 Silly Symphony, Donald makes his debut as one of the farm’s cheerful slackers, while the hen and her chicks carry the load themselves. Drawn from the Little Red Hen fable, the short turns barnyard chores into musical comedy, with Clarence Nash and Florence Gill among the voices and Donald’s early, squawking mischief woven through the story.
