In 1980s New York, a marriage inside a wealthy real estate family turns into an unsolved disappearance. Ryan Gosling is David Marks, the withdrawn son of a powerful developer, while Kirsten Dunst's Katie is an aspiring doctor who wants a life beyond the family's shadow. Frank Langella looms over the story as David's hard-driving father, whose influence reaches into the couple's home as well as the business. Inspired by the case of Robert Durst, the film follows the early romance, the strain of a dysfunctional marriage, and the suspicion that gathers after Katie vanishes.
