Beneath the Paris Opera House, a masked outcast manipulates performances, spreads fear, and turns deadly as he tries to make the woman he loves a star. Lon Chaney is the Phantom, a disfigured figure lurking in the shadows of the theater, while Mary Philbin’s young soprano becomes the center of his fixation. The story moves from the grand stage and dressing rooms to cellars and hidden passages under the house, pairing backstage spectacle with gothic menace. As a silent black-and-white classic, it tells its tragedy through makeup, gesture, and the looming architecture of the opera itself.
